Understanding SWOOP Analytics metrics: seen, reach & engagement on Viva Engage

If you’re using a social network like Viva Engage as a communication channel across your organisation, you’ll want to understand how effective your content and internal campaigns are. To help you gauge this, we’ve introduced reach and engagement measures to SWOOP Analytics for Viva Engage

Reach and engagement measurements will be displayed as a percentage in the Most Engaging Posts report in SWOOP Analytics under the “Content” tab.

Reach is calculated by the number of “seen” counts and then divided by the total number of people at an enterprise level. For example, your “Diversity and Inclusion” post have been seen by 2,612 people have seen the most recent post and your company has 50,000 employees, so the reach is therefore 5%.

The engagement percentage covers the number of people in your community or enterprise who have interacted with that particular post, whether it’s a comment, reaction or a reply. For example, if the post had 261 unique people commenting, replying or reacting to the post, the engagement percentage is 10% (261 people out of 2,612).

Using these two metrics, along with the seen count, can help you understand how your content is performing internally and what types of posts work well and not so well. Being guided by these measures sets your content creators up for success in creating truly thumb-stopping content. It also allows you to easily compare the reach and engagement of different posts.

  • Seen will show you the unique number of users who have seen your post in their Viva Engage feed. It doesn’t mean they’ve fully read the post, but they have seen it.

  • Reach can help you determine how content is performing at either an enterprise level or community level.

  • Engagement will allow you to see if your posts are resonating with colleagues. Reading a post requires little effort, but both reacting, commenting and replying require more, and are therefore signs the content was more engaging.
