Viva Engage or Yammer? Confusion continues to reign!
It’s been more than a year since Microsoft retired the name “Yammer” and rebranded the enterprise social network “Viva Engage”.
We were curious to know if the new name has been embraced, so we ran a poll on LinkedIn to ask if the rebranding of Yammer to Viva Engage had stuck.
We found that confusion reigns. While 35% of the 68 respondents said it’s a 50-50 split – some call it Yammer, others call it Viva Engage – only 24% said they use the name Viva Engage. That’s almost the same percentage as those who continue to call it Yammer. Alarmingly, close to these numbers were the 19% who say they have no idea what to call it!
Based on the results from our small poll, Microsoft still has some way to go in its rebranding of Yammer to Viva Engage. While the Yammer web experience completely switched to Viva Engage in June this year, URLs domains and APIs will not be rebranded until the end of 2023. Yammer is still currently listed as the email sender for Outlook notifications, but the emails include the Viva Engage branding, so we expect the confusion to continue for some time yet.
At SWOOP Analytics, we’ve tried to embrace the new name Viva Engage (not an easy task when we’ve been living and breathing all things Yammer since our inception!).
We’re finalising our 2023/24 Viva Engage Benchmarking Report (last year's report was released just as Yammer was renamed Viva Engage so we named it the Yammer & Viva Engage Benchmarking Report), and we’re hosting the worldwide Viva Engage Festival on December 6, 2023.
